What is Publish on Demand? Publish on Demand (POD) is a printing technology that enables a publisher to print and bind a completed manuscript in a few minutes as opposed to the longer publishing required by the traditional publisher, thus making it easier and more cost-effective to produce books. It helps us to produce copies of new works at a much lower cost than if you were to publish the book yourself. Publishers require minimums on a printing run, usually five hundred or more, so rather than publish it yourself for thousands of dollars and have them end up in your basement or garage turning yellow, they are printed as the books are ordered. PODs can be produced at a fraction of the cost, and need not be housed or stored anywhere as they are printed as needed so no storage fees are added. Some independent publishers who deal strictly in POD publications do so because it is more economical; they do not have to pay for storage of books, and they have lower startup costs. However the publisher’s profits are much smaller due to the fact that POD printed books have higher unit production costs than books published by the traditional offset print run. It is similar, although not identical, to the normal self-publishing. It is just a technology used by different publishers to achieve a variety of goals.

Fee-Based Publish on Demand Publishers, which is the type of publisher that An Author’s Dream Publisher is, are providers of publishing services to writers in order to help them get their books in print. They almost all charge a fee for publication, which can range anywhere from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars. An Author’s Dream charges only $695.00 to publish your book. Also, most other POD publishers do not screen submissions (except for the exclusion of pornographic or hate literature) and anyone who is willing and able to pay will be published by those PODs. Not so with An Author’s Dream—we accept submissions we deem worthy of being published. After all, our name will be on that book and our name is important to us, too! Other publish on demand publishers don't routinely provide editing, proofreading, or book marketing (though some offer these as add-ons to the basic publishing package—at, of course, additional cost).
